Kevin Gildea
Kevin is a comedian, writer, actor who was described by THE GUARDIAN as ‘quirky’, ‘innovative,’ ‘creative’ and ‘pioneering’ and by THE SUNDAY TIMES as ‘highly original and explosively funny’.
Award
2008 Kevin won first prize in the P J O’ Connor Awards – the National Radio Playwriting competition. His play ’10! 9! 8! 7! 6! 7! 8! 9! 10!’ will be broadcast in July.
Edinburgh Festival
The last show Kevin performed in Edinburgh was with his band ‘THE KEVIN GILDEAS’. It was described as a ‘brilliant original show’ – EDINBURGH EVE. NEWS, ‘the sound of the future’ and ‘pure comic gold dust’ by The Stage.
Kevin also wrote and performed ‘A Nonsense of Ireland’ with his
sister Anne ( a show of sketch and song about Irish myths and blather).
Other critically acclaimed shows Kevin has taken
include ‘Get Up Kevin Gildea’ and ‘Man of a Thousand Heads.’
Live stand-up
2008 Summer and utumn Kevin is touring Irish theatres with his sister Anne in a double bill of ‘Sibling Revelry’. He appeared at this year’s Smithwicks Kilkenny Comedy Festival and appears later in the year at The BudLite Comedy Revue Festival.
2007 Kevin played gigs at an Irish festival in Madrid, Barcelona and Strasbourg. He also played The Smithwicks Kilkenny Comedy Festival.
2006 Kevin played festivals in Finland, Kansas City and the first
ever Dartmouth Comedy Festival.
Kevin has played Vietnam, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and Sligo.
Television
2007 Kevin wrote and performed a specially commissioned comedy sketch for ‘The Third Policeman’s Ball’ – a televised extravaganza
celebrating the Irish writer Flann O’Brien and broadcast on TV3.
2006 Kevin wrote and presented ‘The Seven Wonders of Westport’
- a quirky travelogue programme broadcast on RTE 1 television.
Kevin appeared in ‘Fr. Ted’ (C4), wrote and performed in the
sketch show ‘Haywire (BBC2)’ and has done Stand-up Shows
on all television stations ever invented.
Kevin wrote for ‘Alexei Sayle’s Merry Go Round.’
Kevin is a regular contributor to the RTE TV art’s show – ‘The View’.
Theatre
Kevin has worked on a number of improvised theatre shows with Read Co. including HUMAN STORIES (Bewleys) and Living Space – an experimental show performed in Dublin Youth Theatre in which the audience wandered around the entire house watching actors perform in different locations simultaneously.
Radio
2008 Kevin was short-listed for the Francis McManus Short Story Competition.
2007 Kevin won second prize in the PJ O’Connor Awards – the

broadcast on RTE Radio 1 in September.
2007 Kevin appeared a number of times on ‘Backchat’ – the
topical comedy panel game on RTE Radio 1.
2007 Kevin appeared on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Green Guide To Life.’
Kevin wrote and performed in the BBC 4 radio sketch show ‘The O’Show’.
Kevin made Mary Merry on Radio Shuttleworth.
Film
Kevin wrote and performed in the short film ‘No No No’ with his
comedy band The Kevin Gildeas. This was nominated for an
Irish Film and Television Award.
Kevin starred in the feature film ‘Separation Anxiety’ and also appeared in the feature ‘The Crooked Mile’.
Printed Word
Kevin has written articles of comment and comedy for The Irish Times, The Sunday Tribune and The Village Magazine.
Knitting
In the last few years Kevin has begun knitting comedy.
