Gearóid Farrelly
Training
Gearóid trained at the Gaiety School of Acting and attained first class honors in an MA in Theatre Studies from St. Patrick’s College (DCU).
Theatre
Numerous Musicals include Carousel and 42nd Street, both at the Gaiety Theatre Dublin, Copacabana (Skip, then taking over role of Willy), Hot Mikado (Pish-Tush), The Wiz (Lord High Underling), Victor Victoria (Labisse), Kiss of the Spiderwoman, Man Of La Mancha, High Society (ensemble) and performing with four award-winning productions at the International Festival of Light Opera in Waterford. Dramatic roles include Billy Liar (Billy), Death And The Maiden (Roberto), Silver Wedding (Finbar), The Importance Of Being Earnest (Algernon), Our Country’s Good (Arscott) and the one-man drama Mystery School. He also appeared at in Scenes From Ulysses at the Joyce Centre and the staging of Paddy Dignam’s Wake, both to mark the Bloomsday Centenary. His favorite role to date was as Graham in Alan Bennett’s monologue A Chip In The Sugar which he performed to numerous sell-out audiences.
Direction includes Synge’s The Tinker’s Wedding (Our Clann), Robin Hood, Jack In The Beanstalk and Alan Bennett’s Her Big Chance. He was assistant director for Opera Ireland’s Die Zauberflot at the Gaiety and for sell-out runs of both Fiddler On The Roof and Hello Dolly! at Draiocht.
On film he has appeared (Briefly!) with Pierce Brosnan in Evelyn and with Jackie Chan in The Medallion, the shorts Not Least A Liar, Kevin Gildea’s No, No, No, with lead roles in the shorts Script and The Long Road Home and the solo piece Let’s Play. He appeared in the first Godfather’s Pizza ad and RTE 2’s Heineken Cup promo.
Comedy
Gearóid is a regular on the Irish stand-up circuit and recently was a writer and performer for the live sketch show My Funny Valentine which had a sell-out runs in various theatres. He has appeared on numerous radio shows and was the Winner of the 2007 People In Need Smackdown. This year he was a finalist in Channel 4’s So You Think You’re Funny and winner of the Bulmers Nuthin Butt Funny Comedy Award. In August Gearóid made his debut at the Edinburgh Festival as part of the PBH fringe in the standup show Two Birds, A Gay and A Fat Dude, also appearing in Best of New Irish and Best Of ‘So You Think You’re Funny’.
Supports include Maeve Higgins Kitten Brides (Project), Neil Delamere Crème Delamere and also Rich Hall (Olympia) and Michael Winslow (Tivoli) as part of the Bulmers Comedy Festival. Vicar Street appearances as support for Neil Delamere and PJ Gallagher. Regular headline in The Neptune comedy club.
