Colum McDonnell

Be warned ! Stand back! Colum McDonnell is Irelands fastest rising comedy star, and it’s about time too!

Colum is a stand-up comedian and comedy writer, widely known for his appearances with the dynamic duo Podge and Rodge, both in their television and live shows in vicar street and beyond.

What he may lack in stature, he gains in laughter. ‘The Wee Man’ hails from Dundalk, a small independent principality on the Irish border, ruled by their royal family, The Corrs. Colum began his career in his hometown, and quickly established himself as a firm favourite on the Irish comedy circuit, with his unusual and often self-depreciative outlook on family, life, love and the pain of being the last living hobbit in Ireland. Colum has played all the major clubs in Ireland including Vicar Street and the Laughter Lounge, touring with the likes of Ardal O’Hanlon, Joe Rooney, Jason Byrne and Colin Murphy.

He has also become a regular on the festival circuit both at home and abroad. In 2007 alone, Colum was one third of the ‘Young, Gifted and Green’ show that played the Edinburgh festival, he performed for the third year running in The International Comedy Tent at The Electric Picnic Music Festival, and he played his fourth Kilkenny Cat Laughs Festival!

Colum also spent three weeks entertaining Australian audiences on his first trip to the Adelaide Comedy Festival with ‘The Cream of Irish’ show, which he really enjoyed despite forgetting to take a camera, and so has no pictorial evidence that he was ever there.

Colum rounded off 2007 with an appearance on The Paramount Comedy Channels’ ‘The World Stands Up’, the prestigious invitation-only stand-up show, which showcases the cream of stand-up talent from around the globe. 2008 has been a busy year for Colum. He was voted onto The Sunday Tribunes ‘50 To Watch in 2008’ list, and he has worked and toured extensively with the Podge and Rodge scoundrels. He also starred in the lead role of short film ‘Up For Air’, (Dirs. Richie Conroy and Mark Hodkinson), which was screened at The Belfast Film Festival and Galway Film Fleadh, and is scheduled to be aired on RTE.

Go and see him now!…he will make you laugh..and you will laugh…laugh your little wet pants off..so bring a spare pair, you have been warned!
